Please note that Belle was placed in a great home in October of 2022. She's got wonderful humans and a neat adoptive brother to run with!

Meet Belle!

Hi everyone, My name is Belle. I’m 5 years old! I lived a great life with my brother in a house with a back yard. We were very loved! My owner had to move to an apartment, and though I tried very hard, I’m just not cut out for apartment living.

I used to love running around in my back yard chasing the birds and having conversations through the fence with the neighbor dogs! I would play fetch. Sometimes I would hide the ball from my brother!

When we got the apartment though, I didn’t have a big yard to run around in anymore, and I’ve put on some pounds. I tried to be nice on walks, but I pull on the leash and can be hard to handle for someone who isn’t strong. My owner thought I would be better off living in a house with a big back yard to run around in, so she selflessly surrendered me to Nebraska Sheltie Rescue.

I’ve been in a foster home, and I’ve been working on my leash manners. I have a strong herding instinct (I’m a Sheltie, after all!) so I want to chase things like kids on skateboards. What fun! For some reason they don’t like that. How confusing.

The most favorite thing that I love to do, though, is be a cuddle bug. I lay next to my foster mom when she watches a movie. She even shares her chair with me! I just wish she would watch movies with more sheep and rabbits and stuff. Either way, it’s just nice to be near her to get petted.

I also get so excited when she takes me out in the car. I just love looking out the window!

I will be ready to be adopted as soon as my teeth are cleaned on September 14th. I would love for people to apply to adopt me and maybe meet a few of you to see who is the best new home for me!

So if you've got a great yard to run around in and would like to hang out and watch TV and movies together, I would like to meet you. I guess you're supposed to fill out their application form. (I would help, but I don't know how to read yet.)

Adoption Application

If you are interested in adopting one of our Shelties—either an available one or one that may come in the future—please fill out our application form and send it to us. (Applications will be available to do directly on this site in the future.) If you are interested in a particular dog, there is a place to enter the doggie's name. If you are interested in being considered for any of our dogs—either ones we don't have yet or because one you are interested in is no longer available—fill out an application anyway. We will try to let you know when new dogs that match your interest become available.

Adoption Contract

When people adopt a dog from Nebraska Sheltie Rescue, they are asked to sign our adoption contract. This is so we can feel comfortable that our dogs will be going to good homes, be safe, and treated well.

Even if you are not ready to adopt a dog yet, you can view this contract to find out and decide if this is something you are willing to do. (To be honest, if you really care about doggies, none of this will come as a surprise.)
